The couture calendar for autumn/winter 2020 has been expanded with a remarkable innovation – Balenciaga. The famous French luxury fashion house announced today that next July it will launch its first couture collection in 52 years.

Demna Gvsalia, creative director of the brand, said in a statement: “Hass couture is the foundation of this house, so it is my creative and visionary duty to bring couture back to Balenciaga. For me, couture is an unexplored form of design freedom and a platform for innovations. Not only does it offer a wider range of tailoring options, but it also brings Balenciaga’s modern vision back to its origins. Couture stands above trends. It is an expression of beauty at the highest aesthetic and quality level. ”

Balenciaga was founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga in 1917 and was there in 2020 at the age of 52 the house was closed by the designer.

Fashion lovers will no doubt be holding their breath for what Couture looks like in the eyes of Gvsalia, best known for his waiting list inducing sneaker and streetwear designs. The news follows the resignation of the designer of Vetements – the brand he founded with his brother Guran – in September last year to focus exclusively on Balenciaga.

Cedric Charbit, President and CEO of the brand, said in a statement: “It is an honor to bring haute couture back into the house and to highlight the legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga. This project was possible due to the success of the creative vision of Demna Gvsalia and Balenciaga’s exceptional results in recent years. ”Balenciaga has become one of Kering’s most successful brands in recent years, exceeding one billion euros in sales last year, adding that the return to couture one way is to harmonize the “past, present and future” of the house.
