“I come from a city of 23,000 and could have guessed that I would move to New York and make a name for myself. It’s still so overwhelming for me.” I’m from Johnstown, Pennsylvania and had no idea what I wanted to do as a kid – I liked writing and reading magazines, but I never thought that there were real people who wrote it. Last year at college, I did an internship at Health in the beauty department, and suddenly I went to all these events and the whole beauty world was laid out for me on one plate. Then, two months before I graduated, I got a job at Shape – working at a magazine my parents saw at Walmart was crazy, I was there for six years, and I’ve been at Cosmo for almost seven years now, and technologies and ingredients that can hurt people. And if you don’t know what to talk about, make sure you’re talking to people who do. It is the experience and expertise that sets you apart from an influencer. When Cosmos Print and Digital were merged, I was actually on maternity leave and Jessica Pels supported me anyway. People don’t do that – it was really nice to see that she believed in me.

When I was pregnant, I literally got rid of every single beauty product I had. I have not used serums. No retinol, no salicylic acid, no benzoyl peroxide. You can use tea tree oil and willow bark. Not being able to use acne products was the number one thing I was worried about. I recently wrote a story about my acne, and part of my research was done by a dermatologist named Dr. Shari Marchbein performed. She told me that I suffer from deep comedonal acne that is not really talked about – my pimples look like something between the cyst and milia. She gave me a scheme and that’s what I’m doing now. But when I was pregnant, I went to Christine Chin once a month to do microdermabrasion and extractions. The only other facial I do religiously is Shamara at SB Skin in the microcircuit, which you cannot do during pregnancy.

Well, in the morning I either just punched my face or cleaned myself with this Simple Micellar Gel Wash. You go through facial cleansing so quickly – you don’t have to spend $ 40 on cleansers if there are good brands for less. Then I use Onexton, a combination of clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide. I wrote it on my face because like Dr. Josh Draftsman once told me you never know where the pipes will clog. Then I use this Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart, which protects your skin from blue light and pollutants. You can break out pollutants! It is tinted and gives me a nice shimmer and a sun protection factor of 50. When I use it, I do not apply any moisturizer – it is so rich that it is sufficient.

In the evening I use this Clinique Take the Day Off for my eyes and then use Simple Wipes. Or any other wipes that are fragrance-free. I wipe my face and then wash back with the gel because the wipes just don’t do it completely. If it’s Monday, Wednesday or Friday, I put on Retin-A first and then Aczone. Then I use Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore, which I live by. It consists of ceramides and fatty acids that are already in your skin. Therefore, it repairs your skin barrier so much faster than any other lotion I’ve ever used. It is expensive, but I would still buy it, even if I left the beauty world tomorrow. I also have Christine Chin’s cream as a backup that doesn’t do anything crazy, just hydrates.

I really like this walnut face scrub by Kylie Jenner – it’s very, very fine, not like the cracked walnut shell peels from before. And this Acure has kelp and French green clay and – oh my god, I have to hide it because Gio, my husband, uses everything. He is the creative director of Glamsquad and he loves beauty – almost more than I do. My friend Charlotte told him about the Nuface microcurrent device and now I literally hear a beep every morning. And eye patches, almost every morning – Erno Laszlo is his favorite, but he also steals this Shiseido from me. When we make masks together, he likes the Erno Laszlo mask or the Peter Thomas Roth cucumber gel mask or the Skinceuticals Phyto mask. This is especially for redness. And at night he sleeps either in the Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask by Glow Recipe or in the F-Balm by Drunk Elephant, which I just brought him to. In the morning he likes Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream with a few drops of Sun Drops from Dr. Barbara Sturm. And then Futuredew – in fact, one day Gio took the Futuredew to work. I have only one and I have searched for it everywhere. At first, he denied knowing where it was, but then said, “Oh, it’s in my pocket.” [Laughs] And he usually uses the smoothing primer “Make Up For Ever Step One“, which mattifies. Forty easy steps!

I loved this new balm from the Kevyn Aucoin Foundation. The payout is great and every time I wear it someone compliments me. It gives me a more airbrush look when I need to be seen and I want to look like I actually slept. However, you need to exfoliate before using it. It is very matt and highlights all flakes. For everyday life, I use the CC cream from IT Cosmetics, which I have got used for years. It is so good. I am a huge blush person and this Honest Beauty Cream Cheek Blush in peony pink is a pinky apricot that makes me look like a little angel. Don’t you just want to look like that? I put it on the apples of my cheek and work it down with a Pat McGrath brush. I think it looks more youthful. Nobody knows how old I am, so I want to keep it. Then I only applied Futuredew to the top half of my face – my moisturizer is enough.

I roll up my eyelashes and use mascara every day, but I’m not a loyalist. I don’t want them to look lumpy, but I want it to look like something is there. I switched between Milk Makeup Kush, Stila Magnum XXX Mascara, and Nars Climax – the last two have bristles that pop out to really lift the outer corner of my lashes. Then I make lipstick and it’s always a burgundy, a real red or an act. The act that I really love is from my girlfriend Violette for Estée Lauder. It’s basically my lip color, but it makes it look smoother – I’m wearing it right now. Otherwise, I’m a balm. This KNC Beauty Supa Balm is very, very moisturizing and I also love this Primera lip mask. It’s comfortable enough to use during the day but definitely fat.

I get my brows micro-loaded from Piret Aava – she is the eyebrow doctor. My brows are great because of her. She got her into a little bit what I really liked and then gave me a feather-light moment. Then I use this Thrive Causemetics forehead gel. The color it puts on your brows is very true – it’s not ashen and the pigment is good, and it can also fake hair if you don’t want micro-blading. If I were not in the beauty industry, I would buy it myself.

My hair is a love work. I once tried to transform myself into a blonde with more Gisele because I was tired of the care, but I just wasn’t – I am either fully platinum-coated or have my natural hair color. When I was pregnant, my roots actually worked in my favor. I didn’t bleach it at all in the first trimester, and after we left the 13-week anxiety zone, my doctor said I could do it by breathing in cloth all the time. I started coloring it five years ago after Marie Robinson made me blonde for a story. I went to her for a while – love her – and then I started going to Aura Friedman, who is also fantastic. And now I’m going to Ryan Pearl at Cutler. I like to try different people – I feel part of my job. Ryan does my double task in about three hours, which is so quick. I was in places where it takes six hours.

I probably wash my hair every three nights. I use Briogeo’s Color Me Brilliant Shampoo, which contains a hint of lavender to bring out my color. I always have masks in my hair, dry shampoo, and after a few days, it starts to look boring. Cash Lawless, this amazing hairdresser who does Bella Hadid and a number of other celebrities, told me that if my hair looks dull, I should wash it with Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo. It touches the brassiness, but not the color. I only use it once a week and have one of these bottles in the shower for almost five months. Gio made this Glamsquad re-treat conditioner, and even if I don’t know him and I’m not married to him, I would still buy it. I leave it on for five minutes after each wash and then rinse it out. It is super moisturizing. Then I just applied this Amika SuperNova Blonde Violet Moisturizing and Shine Cream on my ends so that it doesn’t look like a broom at the end of the day. When I do a middle part hairstyle, I also put a little on my hands and rub them on. The purple tint just takes up the color of a notch. It is wonderful. When I want to be in the sun, I do this Joico Blonde Life Brightening Veil, which is a UV protectant, on my hair and scalp. And then I use a flexible holding paste to keep my baby hair broken off by the blonde down. I like this from Fellow Barber called Hybrid Clay because it’s matte. I use Harry Josh or glossy clips while feeding Delfina and before I go to work I take them out and everything runs smoothly.

I used the deodorant Donna Karan Cashmere Mist. I like how powdery it is, I like how it feels. My skin doesn’t break out, so I can be a little more adventurous in the shower. At the moment we have the new Ouai shower gel, we have a Peter Thomas Roth shower gel, we have the Nécessaire, Neutrogena, Cerave … I am not too valuable with bodywork. I love this body wash by Frédéric Malle, Musc Ravageur. It smells so good and you smell of it for the rest of the day. But I usually want my fragrance to be a perfume, so I like my fragrance-free body lotion. I use this Honest Face and Body Lotion and Acure also has a 24-hour fragrance free lotion. I used this lotion a lot during my pregnancy. And of course the Néccessaire.

I love seeing Jin Soon for manicure and pedicure. She is such a cute woman and I love to support her. Or I go to Tenoverten. My water actually broke when I got Gio manicure there, which is very nice and very us. When I was pregnant, I always made sure to use nail polishes without as many chemicals as possible. I love Smith and Cult’s Leave Him On Red [Ed note: discontinued] and Obsidian by Jin Soon. At the moment I’m wearing Chanel Organdi, a pretty nude where my hands don’t look red.

My water actually broke when I got a manicure with Gio [at Tenoverten] which is very nice and very us.

I am not really a flowery person – I like scents that are warm and musky and cozy. My friend Lily Aldridge has just launched a new fragrance line and my favorite line is called Summit. I love Byredo Gypsy Water and Gold from Commodity [Ed note: discontinued]. Gios perfume is Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla – he likes to say that he’s an old school Italian when it comes to fragrances. And Kilian Love Don’t Be Shy is a very vanilla fragrance that I love because it reminds me of my grandma in a good way. Everyone always asks me if I like the Cosmo fragrances we brought to the market with Ulta, and this one, Love Unfiltered, is actually so good. I took the sticker off because it is hideous and red, but the scent itself is not hideous – it is really rich.

Gio and I are both obsessed with candles. I like it when you light a candle and it smells your home – we don’t waste time on candles that don’t. I like Le Labo, Byredo, Christian Dior, Simple Goods … and basically they all have a musky, spicy smell. I’ll even try things that smell like pumpkin pie – this pumpkin cupcake is new from Bath and Body Works and really smells like it. They actually have good candles and are cheap.

At Delfina I obviously want to be as aware as possible of what I wear to her. For the first five months, we only used water and sponges – one for your body and one for your face. At the age of five months, we started to apply the Weleda Calendula Shampoo and Body Wash and this Erbaviva Lip and Cheek to it. This Honest all-purpose organic balm is so good – it has never had a diaper rash. Ever. Then I apply sunscreen on them with six months – either Supergoop or this Babo Botanicals Mineral. And I’m wearing Dr. Storm’s face cream on her before we go outside in winter because she’s thick enough that her cheeks won’t blush. Dr. Sturm actually said to me once, “People find it so cute when the faces of young children turn red, but what they don’t notice is that they put a water-based lotion on their children’s skin and it actually freezes and the redness release. “Isn’t that amazing? An oil-based cream or even petroleum jelly is better. Little Martin’s electric nail file is epic. It’s the only one we can take care of your nails with – it has four speeds and a little light so you can see what you’re doing. I use the Kate McLeod Mama Stone for my nipples when I breastfeed because you don’t have to rinse it off before feeding the baby, and I’ve applied the Naked Stone all over Delfina. It is the best. With me as her mother and Gio as her father, Delfina will have many beauty products in her life. Or she will hate beauty – she could go the other way. Do you know the people who don’t even wash their faces? It could be like that. ”
